About the Artist
Like the sculptures he makes, Peter’s life has had many twists and turns. He grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa – a place full of contradictions. A place, while being full of regression and repression, was also full of vibrancy and culture. It was in this land-locked region that Peter grew to love the ocean and eventually cross it to land up in his current home, Brooklyn.
In Brooklyn, Peter revived his first love, cars – and developed his second, family. His marriage to a writer produced a son whose salvation was technology. At first, he created beloved cars out of clay, challenged by the idea of making them mobile and moveable then decided that this was not enough. He wanted them to engage the viewer.
When his passion for art became known, he was introduced to teaching by neighborhood moms, who wanted their children to benefit from the artist in their midst. Although Peter moved on to teach all ability and age groups (from pre-K to seniors), he now mainly focuses on college students.
As you look through this web site, you will see that Peter makes much more than just cars. Like his cars, his pottery and photos tell stories, either conceptual or structural.
If you have any comments or questions about Peter, his art, or his web site, please feel free to contact him. He would love to hear from you.
